Vitamin B12 Injections For Obesity

Posted on by Biswanath Dey

Cobalamin is the scientific name of Vitamin B12. This nutrient is an essential requirement for our body because it helps in the process of DNA production. DNA production takes place in our body through a biological process known as cell division, which is responsible for enabling the formation of red blood cells.

This Vitamin B12 is often termed as ‘energy vitamin’ because it revitalizes and strengthens the body. This nutrient is the ultimate solution for weariness as it maximizes the rate of body metabolism. It is the responsibility of the red blood cells to provide hemoglobin to the blood in our body, which ensures proper air circulation from our lungs to other parts of the body.

It is advisable that one should take care of the problem of being overweight before it turns to obesity. There are some people who opt for artificial steps like wearing sauna belts or using weight lose vibrators to reduce their weight instead of trying out physical exercise or some other natural process. They fail to realize that these are harmful for their health and it may result in some critical problems.

Everything About Liposuction

Posted on by Biswanath Dey

Many people are embarrassed to show off their figures due to the development of either stretch marks or, more often in the case of women, pockets of cellulite. These imperfections can surface when you have lost or gained weight, or if you are prone to them through genetics – lucky you! Whatever the reason for the appearance of these bulges that appears to look like cottage cheese pockets, they can really take away from an otherwise attractive body. If you have tried dieting and exercise and still cannot seem to lose the flab then you may be a candidate who should know everything about liposuction.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction has come a long way and is among the most popular procedures performed. Celebrities are not the only ones getting in line to have their figure restored. Many new mothers have liposuction after delivering and finding out that their body just does not look the way it used to. Liposuction should not be used as a way to remove fat deposits without first trying to get healthy and fit the old fashioned way through diet and exercise. However, it is a way for someone to remove the imperfections that the diet and exercise has left behind.

Myths Dispelled

While many people still believe that liposuction is for overweight people, nothing could be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, liposuction should only be performed on healthy people that are close to their desired weight. The procedure is hard on the body and a healthy body will have a reduced amount of recovery time. People who develop cellulite are generally not overweight, they have excess fat that has deposited itself in an unsightly manner.

How is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction Performed

Liposuction is a procedure where the surgeon injects a small tube into the skin and proceeds in moving the tube back and forth to break up the fat. This process makes it easier to dislodge the fat from the body. Once the fat has been dislodged it is then sucked up and removed. While a local anaesthetic is usually administered it is a same day procedure. The recovery time varies depending on the procedure and amount of areas that are covered in one day. Many patients combine liposuction with tummy tucks or breast lifts so the recovery time is greater than just having the liposuction done in a few areas. The costs will also vary depending on the same factors.

Where is Liposuction Performed?

 Abdomen Liposuction

There are many different areas that liposuction is performed on such as the buttocks, thighs, abdomen and back. These are the most common. However as liposuction has gained more popularity many new areas are being done including knees, calves, upper arms, neck and even the face. With the new areas being done there are also new types of liposuction performed such as tumescent, ultrasound-assisted, water-assisted, laser and abdominal etching. It is best to read up on the various types prior to scheduling surgery to see which one you are more comfortable with and also to research the procedure your surgeon will be using so you are prepared on what to expect.

Who Should I contact to Have Liposuction Done?

If you are considering liposuction, it is always best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon that has many years of experience. As with any surgery there are always risks involved and they should be weighed and discussed before making the final decision. For example if you smoke, the surgeon would ask you to stop for a recommended amount of time prior to having the procedure done. This will help speed up the healing time. Also, you should not take aspirin before the procedure to ensure that you minimise the risk of bleeding both during and after the surgery. All of these things will be discussed at your consultation. You should also check references of the surgeon you are about to use to ensure that you are in good hands. There are many ways to find out a doctor’s reputation including credible Internet sites, family, friends and co-workers.

If you are tired of avoiding the mirror because of the cellulite pockets on your body and have tried every other measure to remove the fat, then liposuction may be the answer. The good news is that with liposuction, you do not have to cover your body any longer. Consult with a surgeon today and see if you are able to remove the fat and enjoy your appearance once again.

Advantages, Disadvantages And Cost Of Liposuction

Posted on by Biswanath Dey

There are several ways to transform our bodies and alter our appearance. Some people choose to go to the gym to tone up whilst others prefer taking more drastic measures. Many turn to the likes of having surgery in order to improve or change how they look. One of the few procedures which is quite well known is liposuction. Basically, liposuction is a procedure which involves breaking up and removing fat from various parts of the body. Many people turn to this procedure when they are having problems getting rid of a fatty deposit build up in their body. Some people shudder at the very thought of undertaking any medical procedures. However, there are a select few who are serious and would like to found out more. This article will answer a number of questions which may be on people’s lips. Here are the advantages and also the disadvantages of having liposuction done.

Liposuction

Advantages Of Liposuction

Body Contour Qualities

Liposuction actually has the ability to make the person that has undergone this procedure look like they have had more body fat deposits removed than in the actual surgery, subsequently creating a much slimmer appearance.

No scarring

Liposuction tends to not leave its mark behind, so you can lose the fear of needing to cover up on the beach. There is usually no scar tissue left behind at all or very subtle marks left once the surgery is completed.

No pain

If you are susceptible to pain and you can’t even bear the thought of stubbing your toe than this procedure will be fine for you. You will in fact endure no pain at all and will be left with no bruises or marks afterwards.

No medication needed

The procedure is efficient and does not require any type of excessive pain relievers.

Can be used on various parts of the body

This surgical procedure is very versatile and can be used to get rid of fats on a number of body parts for example; underarms, neck, chin, face, thighs, buttocks and legs. These areas are mostly operated on when it comes to eradicating fatty deposits.

More than one part of the body can be treated

If you want more than one area taken care of than this can be achieved. The surgeon is capable of removing fat from up to ten areas of the body in just one treatment.

90% success rate

Studies have shown that liposuction is almost 100% successful every single time and can remove the required amount of fatty tissues with ease.

Disadvantages of Liposuction

Extended recovery time

Depending on the amount of liposuction you have had, the recovery process could take up to a few days.

Not everyone can have this procedure done

You may be surprised but you need to fit into a particular calibre before this treatment can be used. Firstly you will need to be assessed by a medical professional to ensure you are in good health and are trying additional ways to lose weight.

Medical complications

Even though there are precautions taken to ensure that the patient is safe, there could be some unfortunate mishaps. Most common problems are allergic reactions and perhaps even puncturing of the vital organs.

The fat could return

The fat may be removed from the body but this doesn’t decrease the chances of the fatty tissues returning. Unless the patient exercises and eats properly than the fat could return.

No long lasting effects

Liposuction will not all of a sudden be a miracle cure which will remove the fat for good. Nor will it provide you with a metabolism improvement. You will also find that your health will by no means benefit from this treatment.

Cost of Liposuction

How much will it all cost you say? Well prices may differ depending on the treatment being carried out. The cost of the treatment depends on the size of the area which you would like to be treated. As the abdomen tends to be a bigger area it could cost anything from $3000-$5000, whilst smaller area such as the inner thighs tend to cost between $1500-$1700.

Having liposuction treatment is a serious procedure and should be given sufficient research before any drastic measures are adhered too. If you are looking to have liposuction than you should perhaps consult your GP before deciding to go ahead and have the treatment conducted.

Does Liposuction Help You Lose Weight

Posted on by Biswanath Dey

The easy way out – this is what most people like. This is true in almost everything in life, including losing weight. To many people, liposuction is perceived to be the surest way to lose weight and to look good. But are they right in believing that? Is liposuction really the best answer to staying sexy and losing weight? Let’s find out.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuctionn Help Lose Weight

Liposuction is a medical procedure that removes stubborn fat from specific parts of the body through suction. It is done by inserting small, thin tubes called cannula into the skin. The cannula is them moved underneath the skin to target and reach the fats that will be suctioned.

Is Liposuction Painful?

Yes, that’s why anesthetics are used in the procedure. Most recent developments however have paved the way for liposuction to be less painful. Today, there are two new liposuction techniques that has improved the procedure and made it safer and less painful.  The first technique uses ultrasound; the ultrasound is used to soften the fat which makes it much easier to remove during the suctioning phase.  The second liposuction technique is called Tumescent liposuction. With this procedure, the doctor numbs the area where the cannula will be inserted using a local anesthesia.  Then, when the area is finally numb, an anesthetic solution composed of Epinephrine and Lidocaine and is infused into the fatty tissue. Suction of the fat will then follow. Depending on the doctor, this second technique does not necessitate general anesthesia, where the patient sleeps through the whole procedure. With both ultrasound assisted and Tumescent liposuction, the patient is awake and is aware of what is happening around him or her.

The pain is felt after the procedure is done. Doctors always tell potential patients what to expect after the procedure. For example, there will be a lot of swelling and bruising in the area treated. Patients will be required to wear compression garments such as girdles, support hose, or elastic bandages for 3 to 4 weeks. These tight garments are necessary to help reduce swelling and to ensure that the body will adapt to its desired form.

The incisions or the holes where the cannula was inserted are also expected to discharge fluids, and the fluids are expected to continue for days. Patients are given antibiotics to fight off infection.

A person who has gone through a liposuction procedure may return to normal activity such as go to work after a few days. The pain, swelling and bruising, on the other hand, are expected to disappear after 10 days after the procedure.

Does Liposuction Really Help in Weight Loss?

The straight and truthful answer is no! Liposuction is not about weight loss, nor is it a cure for obesity. Yes liposuction may indirectly help reduce weight, but that is not the main intent or purpose of the procedure. Liposuction is done to help get rid of stubborn fats in problem areas in the body, even after consistent and persistent exercise and diet. Liposuction is often recommended by doctors and sought for by people who want to improve the shape of their body.

Again, liposuction is not about weight loss, nor is it a treatment or intervention for obesity.  It will help you look good and thus feel good about yourself, but it is something that needs to be seriously thought of before doing, obviously because it is a painful procedure, and also because it is an expensive procedure to perform. If you want to know more, see your doctor and seek his advice.

Qsymia And Belviq Cure The Obesity Epidemic

Qsymia And Belviq Cure The Obesity Epidemic

Posted on by Biswanath Dey

Americans love a quick fix, and the pharmaceutical industry has obliged with products to lose our weight for us. Two new weight loss drugs have hit the market in spite of safety concerns: Qsymia and Belviq. The FDA had rejected both in 2010 but approved them last month with the condition that their manufacturers conduct follow-up safety studies. The approval of drugs with such serious side effects as heart problems and birth defects can be considered an emergency response to an obesity crisis that is killing more people than these drugs ever will.

Obesity: The New Normal

In spite of our multi-million dollar weight loss industry, over one third of Americans are obese. Obesity is more than carrying a little extra weight; it means that your body is composed of at least 30% fat, which for humans is the physiological equivalent of red alert. The incidence of illnesses such as heart disease, depression and diabetes skyrockets in the obese, and there is a direct link between excess body fat and some kinds of cancer. An estimated 300,000 Americans die each year from preventable obesity-related deaths.

Another 34% of Americans are classified as overweight. Combined with the number of obese people, this means that a whopping 70% of the population is carrying enough extra fat to harm health.

Managing your weight may seem like a private matter, but the entire nation pays the bill. The American Journal of Preventive Medicine reports that we spend an estimated $147 billion per year, or 9% of annual health costs, on treating conditions stemming from obesity. The Journal predicts that we will be 33% more obese and 130% more severely obese over the next 20 years. The resulting rise in healthcare costs would be in the hundreds of billions.

A Treadmill In A Pill

Qsymia And Belviq pill

Healthcare experts have moved from viewing obesity as a personal choice to seeing it as a disorder that spawns other health problems. This shift may have spurred the FDA to approve the recent pharmaceutical treatments. Belviq, from Arena Pharmaceuticals, works by activating select serotonin receptors. Serotonin, the neurotransmitter that boosts mood, also aids weight loss. Qsymia, from Vivus Pharmaceuticals, contains two drugs that suppress appetite and promote calorie burning, in part by raising levels of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine.

Based on clinical trials, people might expect to lose up to 10% of their body weight within two years. The drugs are considered effective only if the person also adopts a healthier lifestyle that includes diet and exercise. However, both Belviq and Qsymia will be prescribed as maintenance drugs that people take indefinitely. Patients will be committing to dependence on a substance that will permanently alter their brain chemistry, but for some, the addiction will save their lives.

Containing The Epidemic

Are the risks of chemical dependency and side effects worth the benefit of losing perhaps 10 pounds per every 100 of body weight? Many other countries have made fitness part of their public health policy with such tactics as taxing junk food and rating healthiness on food labels. Efforts to tax so-called bad foods haven’t succeeded here, although package labeling has become more informative. However, Americans don’t seem deterred by the poor nutrition and large portions that the labels spell out for them.

We have a cultural mindset that eating is a hobby and our excesses should have a rewind button. According to Business Week, Americans spend $140 billion per year on weight loss solutions, and yet we’re getting fatter. Obesity is increasing fastest among children and may make this generation the first to have a shorter lifespan than their parents.

The issue isn’t a lack of public health information but a reluctance to walk the walk. Tackling obesity requires a holistic approach with responsibility shared between the individual and society. When public schools serve children junk food for lunch on the taxpayers’ dime, then public policy is involved. When new communities are built without sidewalks, then city planning is involved.

The choice isn’t between diet drugs and a healthy lifestyle but between behaviors. As long as taxpayers ignore the status quo in favor of a quick fix, many people will leave responsibility for their own weight to the pharmacy.

How Can Seaweed Reduce Obesity?

Tags: , ,

How Can Seaweed Reduce Obesity?

Posted on by Biswanath Dey

Million of people struggle with weight problems. Over forty percent of the people in the United States are considered overweight. There are many different weight loss pills and fad diets on the market now, but these diets vary in effectiveness and many have side effects that are unsafe. However, there is an all natural alternative to aide anyone in their weight loss goals. Believe it or not, Seaweed contains a high amount of natural fiber which helps to reduce hunger and help a person change their eating habits. Best of all, seaweed is all natural and made from the Earth!

How Seaweed Works

Seaweed

The number one ingredient that is every weight watcher’s best friend is Fiber. Fiber effectively helps when it comes to losing weight and staying healthy. Many fruits and vegetables are the smart ingredients for dishes and substitutes for many snacks. But did you know that sea weeds also carry a huge amount of it?

Seaweeds are fiber-rich and low on calories. Seaweeds can help out with your metabolism so you don’t retain much fat in your body. Seaweeds can help regulate blood sugar and promote proper digestion.

Xanthigen, which can actually be found in plenty of weight loss products, is also present in seaweeds. This can help lower your levels of LDL cholesterol and raise your HDL cholesterol levels. Seaweeds can be eaten as a snack or an added ingredient in your soups, and salads. Lately, seaweeds are even offered fresh accompanied with century eggs. They have a sweet taste and a gummy texture.

There are also different vitamins and minerals that are carried by seaweeds aside from a good amount of fiber. Seaweeds are carriers of vitamins like B1, B2 and B12 that actually help in keeping the muscles strong and healthy. Iodine is also prominent in seaweeds so it is very good for the thyroid.

Seaweed contains a high amount of natural fiber. Fiber has been shown to make you have the feeling that you’re full, even if you’re only halfway there. When you have that full feeling, your appetite decreases and so does the amount of calories that you consume. The alginate (the fiber taken out of the seaweed used in meal replacement pills and shakes) actually has been linked to a drastic decrease in hunger for a period of up to five hours among test subjects.

Seaweed in Food

The fiber exact from seaweed is not new to the diet industry. In fact, alginate has been used for many years in a number of popular foods. These foods include chocolate, ice cream, salad dressings and yogurts. Seaweed also helps these products to freeze and be stored longer. Surprisingly, seaweed in these foods does not have an effect on taste. Really, many people have been consuming seaweed without knowing it. Just tell people this whenever they’re skeptical.

Reduce Hunger

Alginate makes your stomach release calcium, which then turns the alginate into a gel-like substance. This causes the stomach to slow down the metabolism process. This means that the food in your stomach is digested at a rate that is much slower then normal. So, you don’t have to starve yourself to lose weight. Simply add seaweed to your meals to make the food that you do eat go a bit farther.

Health Benefits of seaweed

Perhaps the best thing about seaweed is that it’s natural, and therefore has very few side affects. This is quite different from what you’ll find at the store or crash diets. There’s no crash, no binging and no malnutrition. Seaweed has also been shown to reduce the amount of the unhealthy cholesterol in the body, which is better for the heart. So really, eating seaweed is like pampering your heart and arteries!

GASTRIC BAND SURGERY TO LOSE WEIGHT: ITS BENEFITS AND RISKS

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Gastric Band Surgery To Lose Weight: Its Benefits And Risks

Posted on by Biswanath Dey

One of the major contributing factors to some of the leading causes of death is being obese or overweight. Treating this disease is not always straightforward as eating a healthy diet and being physical active, especially if you are morbidly obese. In many cases, surgery may be recommended, including a new treatment method called gastric sleeve surgery. Also known as sleeve gastrectomy or vertical sleeve gastrectomy, this procedure is a type of bariatric surgery, which is used when you have been unsuccessful with other weight loss methods. However, not everyone is a good candidate for a gastric sleeve procedure. To qualify, you need to have a BMI above 40 or a BMI over 35 along with health risks such as high blood cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes, which are influenced by obesity

Gastric bypass surgery, which makes the stomach area smaller and causes meals to bypass a part of the small intestine, reduces how much food the patient can eat at once, leading to weight loss. It helps obese patients get rid of excess body weight when other methods have failed. The sleeve gastrectomy is a developing treatment in bariatric surgeries, which involves the removal of about 60-80% of your stomach. This leaves a thin sleeve or tube, which becomes your new stomach. Although the procedure is often successful, data about the long-term weight reduction and general health improvements are limited. Of course, like most types of surgeries, Gastric bypass surgery has advantages as well as drawbacks

Gastric Bypass Surgery – Pros

Gastric Band Surgery

Obesity is a serious health risk but Gastric bypass surgical treatment is less of a threat when compared to the consequences of being severely obese. This weight loss treatment offers many advantages such as:

1.Potential weight loss of up to 60 pounds within the first few years post-surgery

2.Improvement in health, including diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure

3. No foreign device is left in the stomach

4. Being less invasive and may be performed laparoscopically, especially if you are morbidly obese

5. Reduces hunger sensations and post-operative diet offers fewer restrictions

6. Being used as the first stage for other types of stomach surgeries, including gastric bypass or duodenal switch

Other conditions alleviated include asthma, respiratory insufficiency for exercise, sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux disease, gallbladder disease, stress urinary incontinence, low back pain, degenerative disk disease and degenerative joint disease.

Gastric Bypass Surgery – Cons

In spite of the benefits of sleeve gastrectomy, the surgery carries some risks and disadvantages. The most important downside is that the procedure is permanent or irreversible. Other disadvantages of this weight loss treatment are as follows:

1. Stomach discomfort is possible if you overeat or eat unhealthily

2. The surgery is expensive and may not be covered by health insurance

3. Stomach stretching is possible over time, which may lead to eating larger portions

4. Weight gain may occur if life style changes relating to healthy eating and physical activities are not implemented

5. Getting used to eating less food

6. Restricted eating and drinking of some types of foods such as solids

7. Possibility of post-surgery complications, including bleeding, leakages and infections.

Most of the risks associated with gastric bypass surgery treatment are common to all abdominal surgeries and worsened by the fact the patient is obese. Among the most serious risks are lung problems, including atelectasis, in which a lung partially collapses; pneumonia; and pulmonary embolism, when blood clots form and block arteries in the lungs, straining the heart.

Another risk is infection, such as an abscess, where fluid infected with bacteria collects in pockets in the body; wound infection; and urinary tract infection. Blood risks include a bad reaction to heparin, used to prevent clotting; hemorrhaging; and the need for blood transfusions. Bowel obstructions, leakage of bowel connections and stomach outlet obstructions are also possible.

After recovery, it is rare but possible for the patient to develop nutritional deficiencies in protein, vitamins and minerals. This is addressed with supplements and nutrition counseling. Some patients may become nauseous if they eat after feeling full. Patients need to avoid red meat for a few months and should always avoid sweets on an empty stomach. They may need to cut out milk altogether. Patients may also experience temporary loss of hair and muscle mass.

If you are severely obese and all other forms of weight loss treatment have failed, you may benefit from gastric sleeve surgery. However, with some risk factors such as smoking, having gastroesophagal reflux problems and inflammatory bowel disease, this procedure may not be right for you. Without changing your eating habits and including regular physical activity in your lifestyle, it is easy to cancel out the successes of gastric sleeve surgery since weight gain over time is possible

The risks associated with gastric bypass surgery treatment are well understood, so they can be reduced. Those that do occur can usually be treated so the patient can reap the benefits of a healthier life.

Green tea is prepared solely by boiling the extracts of Camellia Sinensis leaves. It is best effective when prepared with little or no oxidation. This is to ensure that the constituents of green tea like carotenoids, tocopherols, Vitamin C, minerals like zinc and chromium are in tact. But a major constituent of green tea which interests in the obesity treatments is the polyphenols. A particular compound called the epigallocatechin gallate is known to have an effect on the metabolism of the humans when consumed. Green tea extracts contain lesser quantities of caffeine when compared to other tea varieties like black tea. Green tea therefore does not pose the risk of addiction which coffee or black tea has. Green tea induces sleep because of the caffeine content, it in a way helps reducing obesity; as consistent and relaxing long sleeping schedules burn the excess fat and can give you a soothing effect of feeling light and active.

A blend of green tea and black tea is also found to be very effective and possessing great medicinal value. The aflavin is a chemical which is more present in black tea and when combined with the antioxidant effect of green tea, the blend is more powerful in reducing obesity and related cardiovascular diseases.
